RENOVATION & EXTENSION

Located on Melrose High Street, the museum narrates the tale of Trimontium, once the largest Roman fort and settlement beyond Hadrian’s Wall.

The project involved a comprehensive overhaul of the existing museum space, the creation of a new street-front entrance complete with a dedicated reception and retail area, and the construction of a connecting extension between the two areas.

Additionally, adjacent public toilets within the Ormiston Institute building were relocated and modernised to meet modern standards.

The principal aim of the project was to provide accommodation which will improve the quality and reach of the museum, resulting in a raised national profile, increased enjoyment and appreciation for visitors, and an increase in the museum’s attractiveness to partners, volunteers, new board members, and future funders.
