CONVERSION AND RENOVATION

Formerly the Royal British Legion Scotland, this property has been reimagined into a vibrant Italian restaurant that blends heritage charm with contemporary design.

The renovation involved significant changes, including replacing concrete panel roofing with traditional slate, enhancing both external aesthetics and internal character by exposing the timber structure after removing the ceiling below. Expansive rooflights now flood the dining space with natural light, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Central to the experience is a spacious, open-plan commercial kitchen seamlessly integrated into the main dining area. Here, guests can observe culinary artistry in action, fostering engaging interactions between patrons and the talented kitchen team, with a traditional pizza oven serving as a captivating centerpiece.

Located within the St. Boswells conservation area, the project required listed building consent, planning permission for a change of use from Class 10 (non-residential institutions) to Class 3 (restaurants and cafés), and a building warrant to ensure compliance with current standards, including critical fire safety measures. This transformation strikes a thoughtful balance between regulatory rigor and creative vision.
